It's only been in last few years that doctors have acknowledged that negative emotions play a vital role in our physical well being. In fact our bodies have strong reactions to emotions. Just think about how your heart pounds when you're frightened, how you cry or get a lump in your throat when you're sad, how your palms become sweaty when you're anxious or afraid or how your stomach gets upset for a variety of emotional reasons. The bad news is, if these negative emotions aren't dealt with, they can have a profound impact on our physical health. Asthma, migraines, ulcers, and chronic fatigue, are often caused by unresolved negative emotions. How can that be? Why can unresolved emotions make us ill? The foundation for this remarkable psychological tool is the Discovery Statement for EFT: "The cause of ALL negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system." Gary Craig, EFT Founder In other words, every negative emotion we experience, including depression, anger, frustration, stress, grief, guilt, anxiety, fear, etc. is a result of a blockage somewhere in the body's energy system. This energy is carried by the body's meridian system through tiny pathways, in the same way that arteries and vessels carry the body's blood. When that energy is blocked or disrupted by a traumatic or unpleasant event (like being beaten up by the class bully in third grade, getting scared by a snake in girl scouts or being humiliated by the boss at work), we feel a negative emotion - like embarrassment, fear or anger. There's another step in the equation however. If someone insults you, for example, the end result would most likely be anger. But what actually happens first is that the insult causes a disruption somewhere in your body's energy pathways. It's that disruption that causes the negative emotion of anger...not the insult itself.
The Real Culprit In other words, there's a "middle man" we never knew about before that's the real villain in the equation. It's the disruption of our energy that causes the negative emotion. So rather than just the cause and affect of "insult= anger", it's actually "insult + energy disruption = anger". When our blood vessels are broken we bleed. And when our energy system is "broken" or disrupted we experience a negative emotion. This is something we didn't realize until about 25 years ago (although knowledge of the meridian system is thousands of years old). If this equation is true (and we've found that it is), then the logical conclusion is, that if we can dissipate the energy disruption, the resulting negative emotion will be eliminated as well. And that's just what happens when the blockage is removed using EFT.
Meridian Therapies There are actually several Meridian or Energy-based Therapies available today. However, Emotional Freedom Techniques, founded by Gary Craig, is the largest, fastest growing, the easiest to learn, and most user friendly of these techniques. Unlike acupressure, you simply tap or touch very lightly on specific meridian points, mostly on the upper body and face, sending small shock waves or soothing pulses throughout the meridian system. By performing this systematic stimulating or tapping of the meridian points, (about 15 in all), while addressing a specific problem, the emotional issue gradually disappears. This simple process balances and re-energizes the system, often in a matter of minutes, clearing blockages and dissipating the negative emotions as you do so. After learning how to use EFT you will be able to apply it to yourself to dissipate many of life's emotional and physical challenges such as anger, frustration, stress, anxiety, fear, grief, chronic pain, and more. You can't possibly comprehend the power of this extraordinary process until you have experienced it yourself. It only takes a few minutes to learn the basics and to start reaping the benefits of this amazing tool that can change your life! The best way to learn EFT in my opinion is at an EFT Workshop (starting at Level 1). However, if you prefer the didactic method rather than the experiential way, you can read a more detailed explanation of EFT at www.emofree.com. This is the founder Gary Craig's web site, and is loaded with case studies, articles and volumes of valuable information. You can even download the free 79-page Basic Manual located on that site. It is a fantastic, clever and simple way to explain EFT. You can purchase Gary Craig's comprehensive CDs or DVDs: Quality EFT video training once you have that foundation, real life experience is necessary to get the hang of it. Beyond the basics you'll need some help with EFT, which is much more complex and expansive than you can imagine. To get to that level we highly recommend doing the EFT Workshops.
